Throughout the lifetime of the series, the coin was produced at five different Mint facilities. This example, struck from 0.7734 Troy oz. 900 fine silver, is a product of the Philadelphia Mint, confirmed by its lack of Mint mark. Lady Liberty is portrayed on the obverse, wearing a crown with "LIBERTY" inscribed, and a Phrygian cap, which has symbolized the pursuit of freedom since the civilizations of ancient Rome. Liberty's likeness is framed by thirteen stars to represent the original colonies, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and 1887.

"UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" surround the image of a bald eagle holding three arrows and an olive branch on the reverse. A laurel wreath partially wraps the eagle from below, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" inscribed above.
