The coin was minted for public circulation by the U. Mint from 1878 until 1904, and then again for a short period in 1921. This 1888 Morgan Dollar is struck from 0.7734 Troy oz. 900 fine silver, and bears no Mint mark, meaning it was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The impressively graded Mint State coin measures 38.1mm in diameter, with a final mintage reported as 19,183,000.

Patriotic Image of Lady Liberty. The left facing portrait of Lady Liberty adorns the obverse, with sprigs of wheat and oak tucked into her hair, wearing a hairband inscribed "LIBERTY" and a Phrygian cap, which is symbolic of freedom and liberty. "E PLURIBUS UNUM, " "1888" and thirteen stars frame the profile of Liberty. The reverse of the Morgan Dollar depicts an eagle holding an olive branch and three arrows with a wreath curving below. The image is surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, " "IN GOD WE TRUST" and ONE DOLLAR.
